Heating is responsible for a staggering part of the energy consumption in buildings, and accounts for 40% of global CO2 emissions! According to a recent European study, energy consumption could be reduced with 30-38% when replacing manual radiator valves (no temperature control) with thermostatic radiator valves (automatic temperature control).

There are an estimated 500 million manual valves still operating in homes across Europe with no thermostatic control to reduce the waste of energy. With no thermostatic control, hot water keeps pumping through the heating system without any sense of the actual room temperature. Manual valves are simply operating with and on/off handle uncritically letting hot water pass through the radiators.

The European study shows that EU citizens would save an astounding 12 billion euro annually and reduce CO2 emissions by 29 million tons, if all the 500 million radiators with manual valves in Europe were upgraded. That’s huge! And it’s right a center of what you do for a living – optimization of heating systems.

Specifically, regarding climate change, the gas mixture filling medium has a total impact of 8,5 g CO2 eq./bellow capsule, while the liquid filling medium has a total impact of 60 g CO2 eq./bellow capsule. This equals a factor 7 between the two filling media.

Additionally, 80% of by-products and waste from the Danfoss RA2000™ production is in fact re-used into the production of new thermostats. That makes for a highly optimized use of materials wherever possible.

Furthermore, due to the production efficiency and a long lifetime on average 30+ years, the Danfoss RA2000™ presents a total potential of CO2 savings worth 13 ton compared to a manual radiator valve, corresponding to charging your mobile phone 1.6 million times.
